Kentucky Championship looking for 300 more volunteers

Tournament kicks off on July 11 at Keene Trace Golf Course

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Kentucky Championship, formerly known as the Barbasol Championship, is in need of hundreds of volunteers to assist with operations at the event in July.

“Really it comes down to the volunteers of the event,” said T. R Hollis, the tournament’s director. “It’s the community. That’s what makes PGA Tour and golf events so special.”

The PGA and DP Tours fill the field of golfers for the event from July 11 to 14 this summer at Keene Trace in Nicholasville.

Hollis and his staff are looking for 300 volunteers to complete a desired tally of 600 for the tournament.

There are several perks for becoming a volunteer and the link to sign up can be found here.

“Branded tournament apparel, a free round of golf as well as being inside the ropes at the event,” said Hollis. “You are inside the full experience which you can’t get anywhere else in professional sports.”

Another part of the tournament that is making progress is the title sponsor. Hollis says that a deal is being worked out and an announcement should come at the end of May.

“You need a title sponsor that’s involved in the community, the state and the game of golf,” said Hollis.
