Kentucky catcher Devin Burkes back for fifth year
Burkes helped lead the Wildcats to the 2024 Men's College World Series
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- One of Kentucky baseball’s most passionate players, Devin Burkes, is going to be back in blue for another season.
The Wildcat’s catcher announced that he will return to Kentucky for his fifth and final season of college baseball on Wednesday via social media with the words “God’s Plan,” and a video of his highlights.
During the postseason, Burkes garnered praise from Head Coach Nick Mingione.
“We wouldn’t be where we are without Devin Burkes,” said Mingione. “He’s an extension of the coaching staff. He’s tough. He’s competitive. He wills our pitching staff. Devin is an amazing guy and amazing leader.”
The Florida product has had an already impressive time in Blue and White. Burkes hit .239 across 60 games in 2024 with 40 runs, three home runs and 35 RBI.
His team-high 17 hit by pitches embodies the toughness of the team’s “We Don’t Move,” mentality, which means the Wildcats won’t move if an opposing pitcher throws towards their bodies.
