Kentucky Board of Education to consider mask mandate lasting longer than governor’s

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Kentucky Board of Education is scheduled to hold a special meeting on Thursday, August 12, 2021, to consider implementing a statewide mask mandate in all public schools.

If implemented, the mandate would last 270-days, which is longer than Gov. Andy Beshear’s statewide mandate issued Tuesday, which lasts 30-days.  The governor does have the power to extend the mandate 30-days at a time.

The board says it needs to do what it can to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and prevent schools closures this academic year.

The special meeting on Thursday is scheduled to be held via TeleConference beginning at 11:30 a.m.
