Kentucky Basketball lands home-grown player as first 2025 commit

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky basketball has secured its first commit for the class of 2025. Malachi Moreno, a 7-foot center from Georgetown Great Crossing, has officially committed to the Wildcats. Ranked in the top 25 for his class, Moreno had narrowed down his options to eight schools, with Kentucky and Indiana emerging as the top contenders toward the end of his recruitment.

With this commitment, Moreno becomes the first recruit for new Kentucky head coach Mark Pope for the class of 2025. His decision is expected to bolster the Wildcats’ future roster as they continue to build under Pope’s leadership.
