Kentucky baseball earns #2 seed in NCAA Tournament

The Wildcats will host the Lexington Regional from May 31 to June 3

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Kentucky baseball are hosts of a 2024 NCAA Tournament Regional after the Wildcats secured the number two overall seed in the field of 64 teams on Monday.

The seeding is the highest ever in Kentucky baseball’s history and the first time the Wildcats have reached the postseason in back to back years.

Within the Regional, Kentucky is the top seed followed by Indiana State, then Illinois and lastly Western Michigan.

On Friday, Kentucky will open the weekend against WMU at noon at Kentucky Proud Park.

Kentucky has two SEC teams as company in the top four overall spots. Number one overall seed Tennessee, third seeded Texas A & M and fourth seeded North Carolina round out the top four.

This season, 11 teams from the SEC made the tournament which is an all-time record for the conference.
