Kentucky American Water invests $72 million in infrastructure upgrades

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky American Water says it invested nearly $72 million in infrastructure improvements in 2025 to strengthen reliability and water quality for customers across its service areas.

The company says the upgrades include improvements to treatment plants, pipelines, pump stations, and water storage tanks.

Officials say about $40 million of the investment went toward replacing more than 12 miles of aging water mains in Bourbon, Fayette, Owen, and Scott counties.

Another $11 million was spent upgrading hydrants, meters, and valves.

Kentucky American Water says the long-term investments are intended to modernize aging infrastructure, reduce service disruptions, and ensure reliable water service for communities across the region.
