Kentucky American Water customers to see higher monthly bills after rate increase
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky American Water customers across the state will soon see higher monthly bills after the Kentucky Public Service Commission approved a rate increase for the utility.
Under the commission’s order, a residential customer using about 3,900 gallons of water per month will pay an average of $6.82 more each month. That raises the typical bill from $44.08 to $50.90, an increase of roughly 14 percent.
The commission also approved a minimum monthly bill of $19.89 for both residential and commercial customers.
Under the new rate structure, residential customers will pay about $7.87 per 1,000 gallons of water, while commercial customers will pay about $8.01 per 1,000 gallons.
Overall, the commission approved an increase of approximately $18.2 million for the utility.
Kentucky-American Water, a subsidiary of American Water Works Company, provides water service to more than 139,000 customers across multiple counties in central, northern, and southern Kentucky.
