Kentucky American upgrading water mains on 6th Street

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Kentucky American Water is upgrading water mains in downtown Lexington on 6th Street between North Broadway and Pemberton Lane. The approximately $1 million project will involve replacing older water mains with new ones in order to maintain quality service for customers.

The project will be completed in multiple stages, with work continuing this year until late November. After a break in construction during the winter months, the project will resume in the Spring of 2017. The project will be completed in five phases:

  • Phase One: 6th Street between North Upper St. and North Limestone St.
  • Phase Two: 6th Street between North Broadway and North Upper St.
  • Phase Three: 6th Street between North Limestone St.and North Martin Luther King Blvd.
  • Phase Four: 6th Street between North Martin Luther King Blvd. and Pemberton Lane
  • Phase Five: Pemberton Lane between 6th St. and Breckenridge Street

During the construction project, water mains will be relocated in the street, typically affecting one driving lane, so motorists are advised to use caution when driving through this area.
