Kentucky 4H members experience the Capitol

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) — First Lady Britainy Beshear was joined by over 350 members of Kentucky’s 4H program for their annual Capitol Experience Day.

Kids travelled from all over the Commonwealth to talk with legislators and learn more about our government.

“Over 350 young people from across the Commonwealth here to just talk with their legislators and let them know their 4H story,” Kentucky 4H State President Mollie Kate Webb said.

First Lady Beshear said both her and Governor Andy Beshear appreciate the work 4H does for education here in Kentucky, adding both her and her husband have and will continue to work for a better educated Kentucky.

“He’s helped increase funding for career and technical education schools, he’s helped expand access to high-speed internet, he’s increased mental health support for our schools,” Beshear said. “His administration has implemented free GED testing.”

Webb presented a gift from 4H to the First Lady as a thank you for her work. She says Kentucky 4H has positively impacted her life in so many ways, and she hopes others will have the same experience.

“We literally have a space for everyone in Kentucky 4H, and I hope that we’re able to broaden our horizons a little bit more in the future,” Webb said.
