Kentuckians urged to turn in unused prescription drugs

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) – Kentucky’s leading law-enforcement agency is planning to collect prescription drugs going unused in home medicine cabinets.

Kentucky State Police will partner with drug enforcement officials for the Sept. 26 event.

KSP officials say collections will take place from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. on that day in every KSP post area across the state.

State police officials say the aim is to remove potentially dangerous drugs in a state that has felt the scourge of prescription drug abuse.

State police spokesman Sgt. Michael Webb says participants may dispose of medication in its original container or by removing the drugs from their containers and depositing them into a disposal box at the drop-off location.

He says all solid dosage pharmaceutical products and liquids in consumer containers will be accepted.
