Kenton County Man Sentenced After Crash That Killed Family
KENTON COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Kenton County man was sentenced yesterday to five counts of wanton murder for killing a family of five.
58-year-old Daniel Greis was sentenced to 20 years in prison after four hours of deliberation.
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, on October 27th, 2017 police say Greis was driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.089, and also had THC in his system.
They say Greis tried to drive in a no passing zone when he lost control of his Honda Pilot that slammed head-on into a Honda Accord driven by Rodney Pollitt Jr. on Staffordsburg Road.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports,” To find him guilty of wanton murder required jurors find circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life.” According to instructions received before they began to deliberate.”
During closing arguments, Commonwealth Attorney Rob Sanders said Pollitt knew during the last seconds of his life, that his family was going to die and could to do nothing to save them.
Vivian Cooper, who is the grandmother of Rodney Pollitt’s high school sweetheart Samantha Malohn said she is glad it is over, but thinks that more justice should have been served.
” I’m glad it’s over, but I don’t think we got justice,” said Cooper. ” I thought he should have got life, I mean he took five lives.”
Greis will serve 20 years in prison on each of the five counts.
It will be 17 years before Greis will be eligible for parole.
