Keeneland’s spring meet opens
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Keeneland’s Spring Meet kicks off Friday, and while the weather doesn’t seem to want to cooperate for opening day, the track will no doubt be packed this weekend.
On Thursday, workers continued making last-minute preparations for opening day, but some of the workers say, its not work. Robert Alexander, or "Spec" as he’s called, has been at Keeneland for more than two decades. He runs the starting gate and says all the hard work is worth it, to watch the horses race.
Alexander says, "You look down at them and they’re probably worth eight or ten million dollars – how many people get to handle eight or ten million dollars worth of horse in one day?"
Post time for the first race is just after 1:00 p.m. Live racing will be Wednesday through Sunday, except on Easter when the track will be closed.
