Keeneland Sees Last Matt On Polytrack

Keeneland’s track is wax-coated and made out of rubber, sand and fiber.  But, it will soon be replaced by dirt.

According to The Jockey Club, artificial tracks are safer than dirt ones.  The data shows Keeneland’s fatality rate well below the average for dirt tracks.

Keeneland officials say they’re making the switch to attract more Triple Crown and Breeders’ Club contenders.

Construction is set to start on May 19 and should be complete by August 15.
