Keeneland Catalogs 4,762 Horses for November Breeding Stock Sale

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Keeneland has cataloged 4,762 horses for its world-renowned 2016 November Breeding Stock Sale, to be held Nov. 8-20. In 2015, the November Sale sold the world’s highest-priced Thoroughbred at public auction for the year and registered a North American record price for a weanling for the second consecutive year.

November Sale catalogs are available on Keeneland.com. Print catalogs will be mailed the week of Oct. 17.

The 2016 November Sale will include the dispersals of Ernie Semersky and Dory Newell’s Conquest Stables, for which Lane’s End will serve as agent; Marc Ferrell’s VinMar Farm (St. George Sales, agent); and Jim Eigel’s Rosemont Farm (Trackside Farm, agent).

“Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale is the largest sale of its kind in the world and is remarkable because of the unparalleled diversity and depth in its offerings,” Keeneland Vice President of Racing and Sales Bob Elliston said. “Breeders from around the world will be here to obtain broodmares and broodmare prospects to add to or establish their programs, while others from an equally wide range of locations will set their sights on the sale’s weanlings and horses of racing age.”

Last year, the November Sale featured the $6 million sale of champion Take Charge Brandi, who was the most expensive Thoroughbred sold at public auction anywhere around the world. A North American record price for a weanling was set at the sale for the second year in a row when a filly by War Front out of Grade 1 winner Take Charge Lady (Take Charge Brandi’s second dam) sold for $3.1 million.

This year, Grade 1 winners sold as weanlings at the November Sale are champion and Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) winner Nyquist, Beach Patrol (Secretariat Stakes), Bradester (Stephen Foster Handicap), Cavorting (Personal Ensign Stakes and Ogden Phipps Stakes), Drefong (Ketel One King’s Bishop), Mshawish (Donn), Sweet Loretta (Spinaway) and Union Strike (Del Mar Debutante).

Horses of racing age will be offered on Monday, Nov. 14 and Tuesday, Nov. 15 and will feature the consignments of WinStar Racing, agent, and Mill Ridge Sales, agent, as well as horses from the Conquest Stables dispersal. Among the 2016 stakes winners sold at the November Sale are Grade 1 winner Haveyougoneaway and Grade 3 winners Barbados, Photo Call (IRE) and Scuba.

Premier Two-Day Book 1 Catalog Opens Sale
Horses cataloged to the 2016 November Sale include 2,287 broodmares and broodmare prospects, 1,836 weanlings, 544 horses of racing age and three stallions.

The sale’s first two sessions comprise the premier Book 1 catalog. The format for the entire sale, which covers 13 sessions, is as follows:

Book 1 (Tuesday-Wednesday, Nov. 8-9) – Sessions begin at 11 a.m. ET.

Book 2-7 (Thursday-Sunday, Nov. 10-20) – Sessions begin at 10 a.m.

Broodmares cataloged to the 2016 November Sale are in foal to 217 proven and exciting young stallions around the world and include the first mares in foal to 2015 Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner American Pharoah, who entered stud this year. Mares are in foal to such other stallions as Bernardini, Bodemeister, Candy Ride (ARG), Curlin, Declaration of War, Distorted Humor, Empire Maker, Ghostzapper, Giant’s Causeway, Gleneagles (IRE), Honor Code, Liam’s Map, Malibu Moon, Medaglia d’Oro, More Than Ready, Orb, Palace Malice, Pioneerof the Nile, Shanghai Bobby, Speightstown, Tapit, Uncle Mo and War Front.
