Keeneland brings cash to Lexington, Fayette Co.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – An economic study of Keeneland’s financial impact says that between the Spring and Fall race meets, Thoroughbred sales, the September Yearling’s Sale, and Novemeber Breeding Stock Sale, the track generated $590 million dollars for Lexington and Fayette Co.
The study was conducted by the University of Kentucky’s Center for Business and Economic Research, Gatton College of Business and Economics. It’s the first study to research the economic stimulus Keeneland brings to the area.
The study found that visitors staying in Lexington while attending races and sales at Keeneland bring in $351 million dollars in economic activity for Fayette Co. Keeneland’s Spring and Fall race meets generate $123 million in spending.
