Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity at UK suspended for hazing

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The University of Kentucky has suspended Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity for six-years for hazing, according to a letter from the school’s Office of Student Conduct.

The historically black fraternity was suspended March 28, 2017, according to school records.

Chapter president Dwayne Sutton, who has since graduated from UK, accepted responsibility for the behavior that occurred this spring.

Sutton explained that he discovered his chapter was engaging in hazing behavior. Specifically, new members were made to line up, recite information about the fraternity and they were sometimes hit by active members and/or paddled, according to the letter from the UK Office of Student Conduct.

The UK chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi was chartered in 1981.

A spokesperson for the University of Kentucky told ABC 36 News that the school would not have any further comment beyond confirming the fraternity’s suspension and the contents of the letter from the Office of Student Conduct.
