Jury recommends life sentence for man who shot Lexington girl
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A jury is recommending a life sentence for a man found guilty of a shooting that left a young girl paralyzed.
Carlos Jenkins was arrested in 2017 following the shooting on Carneal Road.
Jenkins was accused of firing several shots into a home where a bullet hit Amaya Catching, who was celebrating her 12th birthday.
A bullet hit her spine, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down.
Jenkins was charged with wanton endangerment, assault, being a persistent felony offender, and tampering with physical evidence.
On Thursday, a jury found Jenkins guilty on all counts.
Because he was found guilty of being a persistent felony offender, the jury recommended a life sentence plus 50 years.
Jenkins is scheduled to be formally sentenced on April 12 at 1 p.m.
