Judge rules woman accused of murdering mother competent to stand trial
ROBERTSON COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Robertson County judge has ruled that 36-year-old Torilena Fields is competent to stand trial in the disturbing 2024 murder case involving the death of her mother, according to court officials.
Fields is scheduled to return to court on December 8 at 9 a.m. for further pre-trial proceedings.
According to Kentucky State Police, Fields was charged in the October 2024 killing of her mother, 59-year-old Trudy Fields. Investigators say the case began when a property worker arrived at a home on Brierly Ridge Road and found drag marks, blood-stained mattresses, and what appeared to be human remains in the backyard.
Troopers later discovered additional remains inside the residence, including body parts found in a pot inside the oven. Fields was arrested at the scene after refusing to leave the home. Police say she had blood on her face, hands and clothing when she came outside.
Fields is charged with murder, abuse of a corpse, and obstructing and tampering with physical evidence.
The case drew national attention last fall due to the severity of the allegations. Kentucky State Police say the investigation remains ongoing, and more court action is expected as the case moves forward.
