Judge denies shock probation for priest

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A judge has denied shock probation for a priest serving a 15-year-prison sentence for sexually abusing a teenage boy in the 1970s.

Media reports the judge issued the opinion on Thursday in the case of Rev. James Schook, who was convicted in April of three counts of sodomy and one count of indecent and immoral behavior with an individual.

Schook’s attorney, David Lambertus, told Judge Mitch Perry that his client has family and friends who will care for him and make sure that he "abides by the rules of shock probation."

Shock probation allows inmates to be released after serving one to six months of their sentence.

Schook, who has served about seven months in prison, suffers from terminal cancer.
