JCPS closed Wednesday due to another teacher ‘sickout’

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Jefferson County Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, according to a post on Twitter.

The school district says it is due to approximately a third of the teachers calling out and “the inability to safely cover a large number of classes with substitute teachers.”

Wednesday will be the fifth time in two weeks Jefferson County Public Schools will be forced to close because it did not have enough substitutes to cover for absent teachers, who have been protesting legislation at the Capitol in Frankfort.

One bill in particular that has been at the center of the teacher protests is House Bill 525, which would change who controls teacher pensions.  No action was taken on the bill on Tuesday.
