Jarrett’s Joy Cart Holiday Store Opens At KY Children’s Hospital

A child’s vision continued going strong Tuesday night at Kentucky Children’s Hospital in Lexington.

Jarrett’s Joy Cart Holiday Store opened for business.

The program is named after Jarrett Mynear.

Mynear was a young cancer patient in 1999 when he started Jarrett’s Joy Cart in Lexington.

He began collecting toys to give out to other sick children in the hospital.

Jarret’s mother, Jennifer Mynear, said she didn’t expect the idea to last.

"When Jarrett started this, we thought this will be something for him to do for a couple of months, then he’ll lose interest. And even though we lost him 12 years ago, he kept it going and now we’ve kept it going since then, so I can’t imagine not doing the Joycart or the Joycart Holiday Store."

The program lives on today, modeled in hospitals throughout the country.

And at Christmas time, a Jarrett’s Joy Cart Holiday Store is set up at Kentucky Children’s Hospital.

It allows children there to pick out gifts for their family.
