Jackson Energy crews warn of growing dangers as ice storm damage knocks out power

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — As winter storm conditions continue to batter eastern Kentucky, Jackson Energy says crews are working around the clock to restore power — while urging residents to stay clear of dangerous debris and downed lines.

In a Facebook post shared Sunday, the utility highlighted just how serious conditions have become, along with a photo showing a large tree that had fallen onto one of its service trucks — damage the company says is likely tied to heavy ice buildup from the storm.

“We are so thankful that no one was hurt — because the dangers are real,” Jackson Energy wrote in the post. “Safety is our top priority as our crews continue to work diligently to restore service as safely and as quickly as possible.”

Jackson Energy warned that as icy conditions continue, the number of downed power lines, fallen trees and broken utility poles is expected to increase. The company is asking residents to stay away from storm damage and to always treat downed lines as live.

The cooperative also thanked its crews and support staff for their efforts during the storm, along with customers for their patience as restoration work continues.

“We appreciate our field personnel, contract crews, dispatcher operators and support staff for their unwavering dedication and utmost care for the well-being of our members,” the post said. “And to our members, thank you for your continued patience, prayers and support.”

Power restoration efforts are ongoing across the Jackson Energy service area as weather conditions allow.
