IU Southeast on lockdown after armed man report

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) — A southern Indiana college campus is on lockdown after someone reported seeing a man who might be armed.

Indiana University Southeast spokeswoman Kendra Barnes says campus police were trying to locate a man reported to have what appeared to be a barrel poking out of a backpack. Barnes says police were unable to immediately confirm the report.

The incident was reported about 12:40 p.m. EDT near the campus life office on the New Albany campus that covers about 180 acres. It has 6,500 students.

The campus police posted on Twitter that they were searching for a white male with a camouflage backpack. They advised people on campus to take shelter in the nearest room, lock the door, and stay there until police or an administrator report the situation is over.
