Isaac Affecting Gas Prices
Hurricane Isaac appears to be having an impact at the gas pump as prices close in on $4 a gallon.
According to GasBuddy.com, the national average is currently at $3.79.
In Lexington, the price of gas is $3.84, up 30 cents from just a week ago.
Some stations around Lexington are even charging as high as $3.99.
Kentucky’s average is a bit lower at $3.84.
This time last year, gas in this area was just $3.63 a gallon.
The Herald Leader reports that the reason behind the jump is closing gulf refineries, due to concerns about hurricane Isaac’s high winds and rain.
That region produces about 22% of the nation’s gas supply and is home to some of the world’s largest refining centers.
This just adds to the rising prices the nation has seen in the past month, due to oil refinery closures and production troubles in Illinois and California.
