Investigators looking into suspicious fires at Cardinal Park North in Lexington
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Lexington Fire Department and Lexington Police Department are investigating several suspicious fires at Cardinal Park North, located off Parkers Mill Road.
Officials say the first incident was reported Feb. 17 when officers responded to assist firefighters with a vandalism call.
Since then, investigators say multiple fires have been set at the park, including one this past weekend that burned a plastic portable restroom to the ground for the second time.
Authorities say burn marks and damage have also been found on playground equipment, fencing and a nearby trash can. A barn on the property also shows signs of fire damage.
Arson investigators say they believe the fires were intentionally set, though they are still working to determine whether all of the incidents are connected.
Parents who visit the park say the situation is concerning because the area is often filled with families and children.
Officials say the investigation remains ongoing.
