Investigation underway after explosion leaves one person severely injured in Laurel County

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Officials are investigating an explosion at a small home in Laurel County that left one woman seriously injured.

According to East Bernstadt Fire & Rescue, crews responded to a call about an explosion at a residence. When they arrived, they found 66-year-old Shirley Wynn, of London, severely burned, who was taken to Saint Joseph Hospital in London for treatment.

According to Kentucky State Police, Wynn’s burns covered approximately 80% of her body.

Authorities have not yet released information on whether anyone else was injured or the extent of damage to the home.

KSP says the investigation suggests the explosion may have been caused by propane gas, used by space heaters.
