Investigation after officer-involved shooting in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – One person is sent to the hospital after an officer-involved shooting in Lexington.

Lexington police say an officer was patrolling the area of Stanton Way at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday when he spotted a suspicious vehicle behind La Quinta Inn.

Police say during the course of his investigation, the officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect.

The suspect is a 26-year-old man from Lexington.

He was taken to the hospital. There is no word yet on his condition.

Police say no other people were in the vehicle and the officer was not injured.

They say the officer involved is a three-year veteran of the Lexington Police Department. He was wearing a body camera.

Police say video of the incident will be reviewed by Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team and the Commonwealth’s Attorney office.

The Lexington Police Department will also conduct an internal review of the incident.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave per department policy.
