Investigation continues after deadly mass shooting in Florence
BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Authorities are continuing to investigate a deadly mass shooting that occurred over the weekend in Florence, leaving four people dead and several others injured.
The incident took place at a home on Ridgecrest Drive, where 21-year-old Chase Garvey allegedly shot seven people, killing four of them. Following a police chase, Garvey died after shooting himself.
Florence Police Chief Jeff Mallery addressed the unprecedented nature of the tragedy in the community. “We’ve never dealt with this before. I know what’s going on throughout the nation. But this is the first time that we’ve had a mass shooting in Florence. So, yeah, it is very emotional and, you know, my emotions are for the victims, their families, the officers that responded and everybody that was touched by this situation,” he said.
The victims who lost their lives included a 19-year-old, two 20-year-olds, and a 44-year-old woman. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and its motive.
