Intersection of KY 599, KY 615 in Powell County to be closed June 18
POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Drivers who travel through the intersection of KY 599 and KY 615 in Powell County will have to find another route on Friday, June 18. The intersection will be closed to allow for beams to be placed on the new KY 599 Cane Creek bridge currently under construction.
A large crane will be used to set the beams into position on the bridge, which will block the roadway at the intersection. The work will begin at 8 a.m. and the intersection will be closed approximately six hours. The intersection is located at milepoint 0.9 on KY 599 and milepoint 9.7 on KY 615.
During the closure, drivers can use KY 599, US 460, and KY 213 through Montgomery County via Jeffersonville and Stanton as a detour route. Electronic message boards will be put in place to inform drivers of the closure.
The KY 599 bridge was closed in March after Transportation Cabinet bridge inspectors discovered significant deterioration of the structure. It was already scheduled for replacement under the Bridging Kentucky program, but the timetable was accelerated due to the closure. The new bridge is expected to open by Aug. 1.
Bridging Kentucky is a program to improve the safety and soundness of the Commonwealth’s bridges by rehabilitating, repairing, or replacing critical structures throughout the state. More information on Bridging Kentucky is available at http://www.bridgingkentucky.com.
