Inmate accused of overpowering deputy and escaping

HAZARD, Ky. (WTVQ) – An inmate is back behind bars after briefly escaping custody on Sunday, according to police.

The Hazard Police Departments says Carl Engle was being treated at a hospital around 5 p.m. when he overpowered the deputy guarding him.

They say Engle managed to get a guard’s uniform shirt and was wearing it when he escaped.

Police say they were able to track Engle down a short time later and arrest him.
