Inclusion palooza offers opportunity for everyone

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Inclusion palooza celebrates all kinds of people and it did that through music and variety of activities.

For the Underwood family, the event is special because it gives their son every opportunity to be included.

Carter Underwood is 13 years old.

He was born with a genetic condition known as mitochondrial disorder which means his body doesn’t transform food into energy.

He needs to use a wheelchair, he needs oxygen for support, and he has a computer that he uses for communication.

Carter’s mom, MaryLee says it’s a challenge to find places that are easily accessible.

When they heard about the inclusion palooza at the Moon Dance Amphitheater, they knew they wouldn’t have to worry about accessibility.

“It’s laid out in a way that Carter can really participate. The grounds here are more accessible,” said MaryLee Underwood.

The event was focused on acceptance and Carter’s parents feel like he was able to join in the same festivities as everyone else.

“It’s just great to have an opportunity where he can be more fully included,” said MaryLee Underwood.

The event was put on by Build Inclusion.
