In jail on other charges, Middlesboro man arrested in firefighter’s drug overdose

MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (WTVQ/WRIL) – A man already in jail has been accused of his role in the drug overdose death of a former Middlesboro firefighter earlier this year.
According to a report by WRIL radio, 25-year-old Blake Davis, of Middlesboro, was charged with second-degree manslaughter this week in connection with the Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, death of 30-year-old Samuel Alan Farmer.
Davis already is in jail in Leslie County from a previous arrest.
The charges came after what WRIL called a first-of-its-kind offense and investigation by Middlesboro Police Sgt. Barry Cowan. A forensics test determined Farmer died from a drug overdose.
Davis has been charged under amended 2019 Kentucky Revised Statute 707.040 1 (c) for: “unlawfully distributing for remuneration of a Schedule I or II controlled substance when the controlled substance is the proximate cause of death.”
In Kentucky, Manslaughter in the second degree is a Class C felony that carries a sentence of five to 10 years in prison.
