Hundreds participate in March for Science in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)-

Hundreds of people braved the soggy weather today to march through the streets of downtown Lexington all to show their support for the sciences.
People of all ages and background took to the streets, chanting, waving signs and celebrating the importance of science.

“Science is the reason I’m still alive. From my disability, I have Spina Bifida and a doctor saved my live because of science,” said Robert Brown, a protester.

This march just one of thousands taking place across the world this Earth Day, advocating academic freedom and the right to publish scientific findings without threat.
“I think it’s just important to bring science to the people, get public support and understand that science is nonpartisan and it’s just trying to help humanity work through different problems for the betterment of human kind,” said Barry Kieder, a protester.

While many believe science itself is nonpartisan, several protesters voiced their concern over President Trump’s take on the subject.
“The current administration just seems to not care about facts and about science and they’re going to go off of their gut feelings which and their dollar, their bottom line and what they want for their corporations and not what they want for people and not about the you know safety of our communities,” said Megan Cole, a protester.

Protesters saying they hope this show of scientific support will help to encourage the president to take the subject more seriously.
“We just got to keep on resisting and marching and letting him know that we’re listening and we’re paying attention to what he’s doing so he should be listening to us too,” said Cindy Cole, a protester.
Protesters here tell me their goal is simple, to try and get more people to read about science and understand what the scientific method is.
