Humans of the Streets of Lexington page aims to raise homeless awareness

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A new Facebook page, Humans of the Streets of Lexington was launched on Wednesday as a place to raise awareness of those experiencing homelessness in the city.

The page is modeled after the popular Humans of New York website and social media pages.  Organizers say it will feature weekly pictures and quotes from individuals, and is part of The Awareness Campaign sponsored by the Catholic Action Center, The Stein Group, the Street Voice Council and other community partners.

The Awareness Campaign also includes the #Lexendhomelesshate Instagram Challenge which began in August to counter a summer of violent attacks toward the homeless of Lexington. The Challenge was to post pictures of 1000 community members standing for compassion and understanding of those experiencing homelessness.

That goal was reached and surpassed in a week.  Now, the challenge has been increased to reach 10,000 by November 1 which begins the Month of Homeless and Hunger Awareness.
