How To Steer Clear of Slide-Offs
LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ) – It’s not advised to take the roads today but, if you do the National Safety Council has some tips for successful winter driving. The council advises against some common mistakes repeated by drivers in the snow.
Here are their suggestions:
- Allow three-car lengths of space between your car and the car in front of you.
- If you start to lose control, take your foot off the accelerator and turn your wheel towards the direction that you want your car to go.
- If you have standard brakes, gently pump them to stop and if you have anti-lock brakes use gentle and steady pressure.
- Travel at reduced speeds. Accelerate and decelerate slowly and keep your car moving so that it doesn’t get stuck.
- Remember that even if you are able to drive well in the snow, others may not be.
