How people are feeling about Daylight Saving Time

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — It’s almost time to spring forward, and people around Lexington are having different feelings about the time change.

“Having more daylight is going to be great,” Brady Barlow said.

Meanwhile, other people might feel different.

“I prefer the fall one as far as how it affects you but give it a week and you’re back on track usually,” Amy Wilson said.

Experts say to gradually adjust your bedtime and wake time by 15 to 20 minutes before the time change to help your body adjust.

“I’m an early riser so that doesn’t really bother me, but the big thing for me is having daylight,” Barlow said.

Next week, we’ll be seeing more of that daylight.

“I think my preference would be to stick with it one way or the other,” Wilson said.

Arizona is currently the only state that doesn’t participate in Daylight Saving. There are several other states, including Kentucky, that have tried to get rid of it as well.

“People have tried in the past not all that long ago and it typically doesn’t pass through,” Wilson said.

On Sunday at 2 a.m., the time will spring forward one hour, bringing longer days and shorter nights.

“It’ll kind of throw off our sleep patterns for a minute, but at the same time it’ll absolutely be worth it,” Barlow said.

Experts recommend getting at least seven hours of sleep before and after the change to make sure you’re adequately rested.
