House OK’s bill changing barber and hairdresser fees
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ)- New House bill to create substantial changes to licensing and renewal fees for barbers, cosmetologists and related trades.
Under House Bill 260, licensing and renewal fees would be set by regulation and not by law.
According to Rep. Robby Mills, R-Henderson, who is a sponsor of House Bill 260, there are two significant changes proposed within the bill.
The bill will remove existing fees from state law and allow state boards to set fees based on administrative regulation.
Also under the bill, board inspectors will be allowed on premises of shops and salons to conduct reviews related to board-licensed activities.
The state Board of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists and the Board of Barbering support both changes.
HB 260 will also propose changes to the required training hours for estheticians and nail technicians.
It will also add definitions for certain trades.
HB 260 now goes to the full House for consideration.
