Horse tests positive for rabies in Garrard County

GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A horse in the Bryantsville area has tested positive for rabies, the Garrard County Health Department posted on Facebook. This marks the first confirmed case of equine rabies in the county this year.

Health officials are reminding all livestock and pet owners to ensure their animals are current on rabies vaccinations. Rabies is a fatal viral disease that can spread to humans and other animals through bites or saliva exposure.

Anyone who handled the infected horse or came into contact with wildlife in the area should contact the health department or their veterinarian immediately for guidance.
