Horse euthanized after injury at Churchill Downs
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A 3-year-old racehorse has been euthanized after suffering catastrophic injuries at Churchill Downs, according to a statement from track officials.
Churchill Downs says the horse, Valley of Fire, trained by Greg Foley, was euthanized Thursday after fracturing both front legs during a workout on the track.
The horse’s exercise rider was also injured in the incident and was taken to UofL Hospital with shoulder pain, officials said.
The incident remains under review as Churchill Downs continues its preparations ahead of the Kentucky Derby.
