Honor Hike To Help Fund New Trooper Memorial

Commissioner Rodney Brewer and Lt. Col. Jack Miniard plan to take an honor hike into the Grand Canyon in August.

Brewer said, "We wanted to hike for a cause. We wanted it to be for a purpose, and we couldn’t think of any greater cause or purpose that we have than to honor those who have given their lives in the line of duty."

They have been training for 6 months in Kentucky and feel they are ready.

They will carry the pictures and names of the 27 officers and troopers who died while serving with the Kentucky State Police.

The pair will use their own vacation time and pay for the trip.

They hope to raise awareness and money for a new memorial that is being planned at the new training academy complex in Frankfort.

The memorial will include a bronze statue of a trooper, standing more than 7 feet tall.
