Hiker falls overnight; dies at Red River Gorge
WOLFE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- Rescue teams worked until early Saturday morning to recover the body of a hiker who fell at Red River Gorge.
Rescuers say the man was from Cincinnati and was on a trip with others. Those rescuers say witnesses report the man climbed over the railing on Chimney Top Rock, then disappeared in between two rock formations.
Rescuers say it took them a long time to rappel 22-stories down to where the man’s body was. At the request of the family, the Wolfe County deputy coroner says the identity of victim isn’t being released.
The fall happened just after midnight Saturday morning, according to rescuers.
