Highway fatalities down in Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Kentucky recorded its lowest number of highway fatalities in a decade last year, according to Governor Andy Beshear. In 2024, 707 people died on Kentucky roads—a drop of 107 deaths compared to 2023.

The governor credited the decline to continued education campaigns and stronger enforcement focused on safer driving.

Officials say nearly half of those killed weren’t wearing seat belts, and distracted driving played a role in more than one in five crashes. So far in 2025, fatal crashes are down another 17%.

Drivers are being reminded to buckle up, slow down, and stay focused behind the wheel.
