High Winds Leave Major Damage

Residents in Montgomery County started cleaning up Friday after high winds caused an estimated tens-of-thousands of dollars in damage Thursday evening.

Officials with the National Weather Service visited the area and said they don’t believe a tornado ever passed through. They said damage was caused by straight line winds up to 95 miles an hour.

“It was just a sprinkle of rain, nothing else. Then all of a sudden you couldn’t see two inches in front of you,” said Chris Daniel, who was working with his cattle when the winds came.

“We just got in the barn and ducked. We grabbed a hold of the big poles and held on. We didn’t have time to run to the house.”

Montgomery County Emergency Management Director Wesley Delk said after dealing with tornadoes in March of 2012, they were ready for this storm.

“We blocked roads off to allow the power crews to work and keep folks away from downed lines,” said Delk. “We had spotters in the field… law enforcement who are trained storm spotters.”

Delk said luckily they are only dealing with property damage. No one was hurt in the storm.
