High waters close parts of Cave Run Lake

ROWAN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) — The Daniel Boone National Forest has placed some temporary closures on Cave Run Lake due to high water level.

The lake water level continues to rise after extensive rainfall.

The U.S. Forestry Service says the level is currently at 739 feet, 9 feet above summer pool.

The following areas are closed until the water level recedes:

• Claylick Campground – no road access
• Claylick Boat Ramp
• Clear Creek Campground (picnic area open)
• Paragon Dispersed Camping 
• Bangor Boat Ramp
• Blackwater Boat Ramp
• Twenty Six Boat Ramp
• Ramey Creek Fishing Site
• Muskie Bend Fishing Site 

Tim Eling with the Daniel Boone National Forest says we can expect these closures for at least a few more days.

The high water level is also effecting how the fish are biting, according to fishermen in the area.

Steve Fricke says this time of year is usually good for fishing but this year it’s been slow.

“Now that it’s so far back [the water] in the trees, it makes it hard to get to where the fish are sometimes.,” says Fricke. “You can’t get a big boat back there.”

Eling says we will still see a rise in the lake for a few more days until the water shed drains and the Army Corps of Engineers can release the water to go down the Licking River.
