High water level at Stoner Creek in Paris

Paris, Ky. (WTVQ) – Staff at the Paris Water Plant say Stoner Creek is about a foot of water above the flood stage.  "We’re about just over 19 feet.  Flood stage is 18 feet," says Kevin Crump, the director of operations at the Paris Water Plant.

Crump explains the water plant sits on the creekb and they are able to measure water levels regularly.  He says water is not a problem where it is currently, but at 30 feet, it’s inside their building.

Crump says the creek is overflowing slightly into people’s backyards but that it’s manageable.

One person who knows the back and forth dance of a rising creek is Kimberly Denton.  Denton says in the past the water has gotten so high, it has surrounded her house.  She is hoping the rain will stop so she doesn’t get trapped inside of her house.  "Sometimes they have to come down here with a boat to get us out," says Denton.

Crump says the creek is higher than usual from recent rain and snow runoff and that the water is muddier than normal.  He says they run extra tests to make sure the water is clean.

Rain is in the forecast over the next few days, but residents say they are prepared.  "I’ll move my car up the hill if I have to," says Denton.
