UPDATE: Ex-Kentucky teacher pleads not guilty to child porn charges

ASHLAND, Ky. (AP) – A Kentucky high school teacher has been arrested on child pornography charges.

News outlets report 47-year-old Sam Beason resigned from his job after he was arrested by Ashland police on several charges of possession of child porn. He pleaded not guilty to the charges Wednesday in Boyd County District Court.

Beason had taught math at Russell High School. A statement from the Russell Independent School District says he resigned Tuesday.

District Superintendent Sean Horne says Beason had worked with the district for about 15 years. Horne says Beason is being investigated by Ashland police, Flatwoods police and the school resource officer.

Beason said he wasn’t sure if he could afford an attorney, but the judge said he didn’t meet requirements for a public defender.

He’s jailed on $5,000 cash bond.

ASHLAND, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Kentucky high school math teacher has resigned after being arrested on child pornography charges, according to Ashland Police.

47-year old Sam Beason, of Ashland, taught at Russell High School.

Investigators say Beason was charged with five counts of possession or viewing of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor, and one count of unlawful use of electronic means originating or received within the Commonwealth to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited activities.

Beason was booked into the Boyd County Detention Center where he was being held without bond.
