High school championships staying in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky’s high school football championships will remain in Bowling Green through 2018.

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association says it has officially extended agreements with Russell Athletic and Western Kentucky University. Tentative approval was given earlier, dependent on Russell Athletic remaining as title sponsor.

The championships moved to Bowling Green in 2009 after 30 years in Louisville.

Western’s Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium opened in 1968 and underwent renovations in 2006, adding a new grandstand with a club level, new concession stands and restrooms, new football offices, weight room, training room, locker room and equipment area. Renovations also included a new scoreboard and video board, and the playing surface was replaced this year. The stadium has a seating capacity of 22,113.

This year’s championships are Dec. 5 and 6.
