Hepatitis A confirmed at three area restaurants

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Three restaurants in Lexington and Winchester are closed after The Health Department says the restaurants had confirmed cases of hepatitis A.

The Health Department says if you ate at the Hardee’s at 2990 Richmond Road in Lexington between November 23-26, 2018, the Waffle House at 2347 Buena Vista in Lexington between November 11-19, 2018, or the Waffle House at 4 Carol Road in Winchester on November 20, 2018, you need to get a hepatitis A vaccination.

“It’s tricky right now because this is flu season and a lot of the symptoms overlap, so your going to be watching for tiredness, body aches, fever, but the biggest difference between the flu and hepatitis A in terms of symptoms are going to be dark urine and yellowing of the skin and eyes,” says Kevin Hall with the Health Department.

Waffle House tells WTVQ they won’t reopen until all employees are vaccinated.

“Lexidan Foods will take further steps of vaccinating all employees and management working in the Central Kentucky market. We are committed to do everything we can to provide a safe environment for our associates and customers,” the company said in a statement.
