Helping those without a home in the heat
Catholic Action Center looking for volunteers to hand out water
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWSNOW) — The Catholic Action Center is looking for volunteers to hand out water bottles to the unhoused population here in Lexington.
Ginny Ramsey, director and co-founder of the Catholic Action Center, says the number one need right now for those facing homelessness is water.
She adds that it’s important to keep in mind that the unhoused population is already in bad health, so helping them during this time of year is crucial.
“If there’s any question that someone’s passed out, don’t think that they are just drinking or they’ve passed out from drugs or alcohol,” Ramsey said. “Assume that it’s from heat and call 911.”
Over the past two weeks, the Catholic Action Center has worked with volunteers to hand out over 1,000 water bottles. Ramsey said they are still looking for people to sign up to be ‘Compassionate Water Distributors’ to hand out water during weekends.
To sign up, you can head to the Catholic Action Center’s website, or click this link to go to their Facebook.
