Help the Jessamine County Homeless Coalition stay open
JESSAMINE CO., Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Johnny Templin with the Jessamine County Homeless Coalition is asking the community for help, saying ever since Covid they’ve been just barely getting by.
“We’ve been relying strictly on donations for the first time in our organizational history,” he said.
The organization provides a number of different services including an emergency shelter to help people get back on their feet.
“For anybody that doesn’t want to stay in the shelter, we also offer community showers, laundry, and meals,” Templin said. “Currently we’re averaging well over two dozen meals a day that’s going out to the community every single day.”
Templin says their organization is the only one of its kind in Jessamine County, meaning if they shut their doors, these people won’t have a safe place to go.
“We are probably okay for about another three or four weeks right now,” he said. “Sadly, this is a reoccurring thing so we’re hoping to be overly blessed with that to get us through. It’d be nice to get the bills paid in October, so we can really focus on our end-of-the-year project and try to maximize that like we typically do.”
If you would like to donate, you can use Venmo or PayPal and send the amount to JCHCKY. You can also send money directly to the shelter at 218 E Maple Street. For more information, you can visit the Jessamine County Homeless Coalition Facebook page.
